3 rd practice

Billion of euros are spent on preventing drugs use, treating addicts and fighting drug-related crime. Although drugs are spread all over the world, their effects can be combated successfully.

Drugs abuse causes several problems to families, communities and even, to countries. The medical and phycological effects are evident: drug addicts are extremely skinny and they also can suffer from hallucinations. It means that addicts cannot function and cannot be treated as normal citizens of society. Apart from this, in some cases they neglect even abuse their families. Moreover, they require expensive treatments, or if the problem with drugs cannot be handle by the families, the addict has to be hospitalized. The second negative effect is related to crime. Tremendous police resources are needed to face this actual battle. The reason is that gangs and mafias are so powerful because the still function with the profit that drugs business - among others, such as traffic of people- provides them.

These well-known problems can be combated, but we need effective solutions. Luckily we have a couple of them. Education could be the first resources to finish with it. Children from every single country should be taught about drugs effects and the consequences of treating with gangs and mafias whose business is selling them. They must be warned about it; they must be conscious about this world-wide problem. On the other hand, the second and the most violent measure consists in increasing police manpower. We need more undercover policemen who inform about gangs strategies and movements.

Although the problem may seem impossible to eliminate, there are certain steps which we can be taken to make the hold of drugs disappear. Nevertheless, to achieve this utopian dream, the danger caused by drugs should not be ignored neither at home nor in schools.
